Aluminium Etchants
Aluminium is oxidised to Al2O3 by Nitric Acid. This then reacts with the Phosphoric Acid component to form soluble AlPO4. A by-product of the reaction is Hydrogen gas which may adhere to the surface and give rise to defects. To eliminate these defects the reaction mixture may be agitated or surfactants may be added. The function of the Acetic Acid is to dilute the chemical mix without slowing the oxidation step.
