Product Risk Assessment and Management

Risk assessment and risk management are guiding principles of the OM Group Environment, Health, Safety and Product Stewardship Policy. This assessment and management is conducted within the structure of the OMG Responsible Care Management System (RCMS).

A cross-functional team of OMG associates as well as outside resources contributes to the risk assessment process for new and existing products. Our team uses established standard operating procedures to review and approve all new chemicals prior to use to ensure that hazards are identified and managed. The product review process includes an examination of available chemical and physical properties; safety hazards; health hazards; environmental hazards; and exposure potentials. Information to support these reviews comes from scientific literature, supplier information, knowledge of similar products or raw materials, participation in industry trade associations, and from testing. Depending on the characterized risk, risk management actions are implemented. These may include but are not limited to revisions to the MSDS and label and recommendations for personal protective equipment.
