Driers for Printing Inks
As the global leader in the development and manufacture of metal carboxylates as driers for inks, OMG delivers an effective way to provide cobalt and other metals as a liquid additive.
Cobalt Lin-All®
Our complete line of Cobalt Lin-All® P.I. driers has set the quality standard for the ink industry for many years. Formulated with selected non-volatile diluents, these driers provide the means of adding relatively large amounts of drying metals to printing inks without introducing substantial quantities of non-drying materials, while maintaining control over the viscosity of the ink. Cobalt Lin-All® P.I. Drier is offered in various metals concentrations, including 5%, 5.6%, 6% and 12%.
Boroacylates
We have a new boroacylate product for printing inks called Ultra-Set® 260. Boros are very versatile chemistry, which makes it possible to add different metals on the same molecule. Users can control the stoichiometry, create synergy between metals and have high metal loading, if desired. Plus, it’s homogeneous at the molecular level. Boroacylates also have low water solubility (and bioavailability); thus, the metal stays put when it interacts with fountain solutions, which equates to more active metal in the drying process. This means lower metal loading, faster dry times, improved rub, improved set off, increased stack height, greater work and turn, and better cut and crease.
DRI-Rx® HF
This cost-effective drier accelerator allows ink formulas to achieve rapid rates of dry in some of the most difficult applications. DRI-Rx® HF acts synergistically with the cobalt and manganese in the ink formula. It helps to rapidly cure the ink, even when the ink is applied over plastic stocks or non-porous substrates. DRI-Rx® HF is typically added at a rate of 0.2% by weight of the ink formula. This potent drier accelerator will also help minimize loss-of-dry in the ink. It can be added to the ink with the driers, or it can be post-added at low levels to enhance dry at the job site.
Hydro-Cure® P.I. Drier
We developed Hydro-Cure® P.I. Drier for use with litho inks. This water-activated drier can be incorporated directly into the ink, or it can be used as a press-side additive. It releases oxygen directly into the ink upon the addition of fountain solution to provide the fastest possible dry. It is especially useful with non-porous substrates.
21% Cobalt Hydroxy Ten-Cem®
21% Cobalt Hydroxy Ten-Cem® works well with carbon blacks, toluidine reds, iron blues or other pigments prone to drier adsorption. A common problem is loss-of-dry when inks are stored for lengthy periods. 21% Cobalt Hydroxy Ten-Cem® provides a simple, effective solution to this problem. Known as a feeder drier, 21% Cobalt Hydroxy Ten-Cem® has a controlled rate of dobalt solubility and is designed to supply both initial and continuous activity through its feeding action. It is not intended as a replacement for normal drier, but should be used as a companion product to our standard cobalt driers.
Light-Color Manganese and Cerium Driers
These products are particularly useful for demanding applications in which color cannot be tolerated. Cerium is effective in minimizing "ghosting."
